Salary: £150 per day Location: Glasgow/Fife Accountable to: Senior Course Facilitator The Organisation School of Hard Knocks is a social inclusion charity running courses that use sport & fitness to tackle the issues surrounding unemployment, antisocial behaviour, crime and health. We have an expert team of coaches and mentors, supported by a wide range of high profile individuals from within and outside sport. Using a unique programme of challenging activities and values-based lessons we enable participants to take positive steps forward in their lives. Job Description An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team to support School of Hard Knocks’ Programme Manager and coaches in the delivery of our Schools Programme in Scotland. Responsibilities Deliver the mentoring programme with students from all ages both on a 1:1 basis and in a whole group setting Create new group mentoring sessions around the core principles of School of Hard Knocks (the 5 C’s) that suit the needs of the group Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning, behaviour and attendance. Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress, achievements, behaviours and attendance. Assist in the monitoring and evaluating of all pupils on the course Be aware and support differences and ensure all pupils on the course have equal access to the mentoring programme Be aware of, and comply with, polices and procedures relating to child protection; health and safety; confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the programmes manager Communicate effectively with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the school to support achievement and progress of pupils on the course. Attend and participate in regular meetings, training and other learning activities as required, contributing to the overall ethos and aims of the charity. Develop good relationships with school staff and outside agencies, including exchanging relevant information professionally. Attend where required Parents evenings or other specialist school events where SOHK presence is required Support pupils on the side of the pitch, who are struggling with their own emotions or behaviour enabling them to get back into the programme. Support the assessment of pupils to determine those in need of particular help and support. Assist with and advise on the mentoring of the most complex and challenging beneficiaries; Train SOHK staff to enhance programme delivery Person Specification Knowledge & Experience Essential Experience of working with challenging young people. Child safeguarding knowledge. Ability to build rapport with young people with a variety of needs. Ability to tailor interventions to meet the needs of the students on the course and support coaches to maintain these interventions. Ethical knowledge on how and when to disclose as well as refer participants to healthcare professionals. Excellent communication skills. Understanding of education system. Writing skills for reports / referrals. Ability to time manage effectively. Evidence of group facilitation. Desirable Knowledge of mental health and child protection protocols with adolescents Knowledge of rugby and the benefits it has for young people Experience in delivering training in any of the areas outlined above Experience of delivering in a classroom setting to a large group of young people Skills & Attributes Essential You will be extremely driven and passionate to deliver the charity’s objectives, in line with its values of Integrity, Excellence, Empowerment and Commitment.
