School of Hard Knocks is running a five-week course to help unemployed adults to improve their confidence and wellbeing, and ultimately help them gain a career within the hospitality industry.

This unique course is funded by Heineken, who are offering course participants guaranteed interviews for a range of roles they have within bar work, bar management and chef work. Using both rugby and boxing alongside bespoke mentoring and group sessions, the course will challenge participants’ perspectives and attitudes and offer them valuable insight into the hospitality sector. Heineken will be providing special workshops for this course which will teach our participants various skills ranging from pouring the perfect pint to creating the best possible customer experience.

Heineken have been involved with School of Hard Knocks for the last three years, helping fund our work in Edinburgh which reached 132 participants, with 95 graduating our eight-week rugby and employment course. All graduates also completed two accredited qualifications with us with 70% securing full-time employment and 79% rating their employment prospects as improved. 100% said they’d recommend the course to friends.

SOHK is thrilled to be running this course in partnership with Heineken, as we do not usually help our participants find work in specific industries. We are sure this will be an exciting new chapter in terms of how we deliver our programmes, and that the course will inform, challenge and progress how we work. Bring on the next five weeks!
