Gary took part in a SOHK Scotland boxing course in the summer of 2014. While on the course, Gary was going through a lot. At one point in the programme, Gary became homeless and, without a roof over his head, he was struggling to have enough money to buy food.

Despite these issues, Gary never failed to attend a session and gave both the boxing training and life skills sessions his all. He always turned up to additional employability sessions (outside the usual programme hours) to better his CV, and for additional job application support.

At the end of the course, Gary met the army at the post-course jobs fair. With the encouragement and support of SOHK Scotland, Gary applied to the army.
A year on, he was accepted and he completed his passing out parade on 19th September 2015.

He has recently spoken to one of our Scotland courses about his SOHK experience and the changes he has made to his life. Gary believes that if it wasn’t for SOHK he wouldn’t be where he is today.

Well done Gary, we are so proud of you!
